OIL TANK LUCERNA

CONCERN AS TO SAFETY (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) SYDNEY, 28th March. Concern is expressed as to the safety of the oil tanker Lucerna as the result, of a faint S.O.S. signal and the ship’s number received by the Broome wireless station. The Lucerna is supposed to be carrying a full load of motor spirit for New Zealand. The Lucerna was expecting to reach Thursday Island next week. No position was given with the 5.0.5., and Broome’s inquiry elicited no reply. (Received 30th March, 9.50: a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. It is believed that the Lucerna is aground somewhere near Thursday Is land. Another wireless message has been intercepted to the effect that the Lucerna is in communication with Aigle station, Singapore.
