FRENCH MILITARY ESTIMATES
ALLEGED DECREASE COMPARISON WITH OTHER COUNTRIES (Unitod Press Association— By Elect-bo Telegraph—Copyright) (“Times” Cables) (Received 24th February, 8.45 a.m.) LON DON. 23rd February. “The Times” Paris correspondent says that the report on the military estimates was submitted to Deputies. It envisages the Disarmament Commission’s discussion and presents . the French cause in a most favourable light. The. homo army vote is shown at £38,000,000 and the overseas at £13,000,000, aggregating £600,000 more than last year. Expenditure has allegedly decreased 10 per cent since 1914. The United Stales increased 86 per cent.. Japan 48 per cent.. Britain decreased 1 per cent., and Italy 14 per cent.
France compares her 552,000 men, home and overseas, with Britain’s 510, 000 regulars. 277.000 militia, and 43,000 in overseas formations. Italy has 303.000 regulars, and 110,000 police and militia. Germany lias 100.000 regulars and 150,000 security police.
