PREFERENCE TO UNIONISTS

ADELAIDE, 21st February. Preference to members of the Water'siders’ Federation operated at Port Adelaide yesterday. The employment of volunteers was restricted to ex-soldiers who are eligible for continuous work. BRISBANE, This Day.
Watersiders’ preference to unionists began yesterday morning. There is a likelihood of about 700 volunteers being affected. MELBOURNE, 21st February.
Immediately -ibe Federal Parliament reassembles the Senate will disallow regulations under the Transport Act whereby unionists are given preference on the waterfront.
LONDON. 20th February. Referring to Australian preference to unionist watersiders, shipowners regret the High Court’s decision, but say that they must obey the law. They feel the Government’s attitude will still further damage Australian external credit. Shipowners are greatly perturbed. They regard the volunteers as a safeguard. There lias been peace since they were employed.
