RICHMOND
EARTHQUAKE RELIEF FUND A special meeting of the Richmond Relief Committee was held last week. The Mayor (Mr H. W. Kelly) occupied the chair. It was reported that the canvass of the Borough had been very successful the sum of £287 15s 3d having been collected with prospects of further donations at an early date. An executive committee of four members was appointed to deal promptly with any matters that may arise. The Commercial Bank having offered to open an account free of charge for the committee, it was decided to take advantage of this, and to open an account forthwith. It was decided to collect clothing for the refugees, men’s garments being particularly required. These arc to he left at May and Co’s., this firm having undertaken to sort, pack and deliver to the Railway Station all clothing left at the shop. Although the Borough had been canvassed it was decided' to continue to raise funds hv means of entertainments, etc. The Mayor pointed out that by this means the younger people of the borough could do their part toward assisting in this worthy cause.
