POPULATION OF AUSTRALIA
NOW NUMBERS 6,456,426 INCREASE OF 115,071 IN YEAR The population of Australia on 30th September, 1930, was 0,450,420—3,295,501 males and 3,100,805 females. The increase since 30th September, 1929, was 05,071 persons. Of that number 28,000 were males and 30,405 females. Births exceeded, deaths by 71,072, hut departures exceeded arrivals by COOL The following table shows the natural increase and the gain or less by migration :

Since the census in 1921 the population of Australia has increased by 1,020,092 persons, including 737,087 by natural increase and 283,005 by migration. The average annual increase has lieon loss than 2 per cent. The population of the States and territories at 30th September was as follows:—Now South Wales, 2,493,551; Victoria, 1,780,944; Queensland, 945,SS2; South Australia, 581,095; Western Australia, 419,793; Tasmania, 215,813; Northern Territory, 4713: Federal Capital Terri tor/', 8095.
