NELSON CENTRAL SCHOOL
SUCCESSFUL EFFORT FOR RELIEF FUNDS
The children of the Nelson Central School held a concert under the trees in the school grounds yesterday to raise money for the earthquake relief funds. The pupils had to earn their own contributions and not ask their parents for them. The result was most gratifying, the sum of £l2 3s 3Jd being raised. The Minister of Education, the Hon.- Harry Atmorc, was present. He commended the children for their self-sacrifice and specially mentioned four small girls who had organised an entertainment in a private house and were able, as a consequence to hand £3 to. Mr McClune, to augment the funds. The following was the programme:—The National Anthem; musical appreciation, Tasman street pupils; recitation, Nancy Nancnrrow; song, Marjorie Marks; song, Tasman street Sla; song, Edna Grcencm; country dance, Brook street; song, Sib and S2b; recitation, Margaret Smith; duct, Owen and Lorna Mitchell; recitation, Natalie Gallon; folk dance, senior girls; recitation, Mary Martin; song, Lorna Styles; recitation, Percy Smith; country dance, senior girls; “The Quack Doctor Comes to Town,” Mr Jones; recitation, Ngaire Gamboni; historical scene, S3b and S4b; musical item, Messrs Begg and Gnscoinc; playette, Lorna Trathen, Audrey Cotton, May McCauley and Crissic Hunter; march, the school drum and life band.
