REFUGEES’ CAMP AT AWAPUNI
EARLY EVACUATION (By Telegraph—Press Association) PALMERSTON N., This Day. An announcement that every endeavour would be made to evacuate the Awapuni earthquake refugee camp by Saturday of next week was made by Major-General Young. He added that the Central Relief Committee recognised that it would be a considerable time before women and children would be able to return to Napier and Hastings, but considered it better to have the refugees billeted in private homes. He stated that he was not yet in a position to make a statement regarding tiie show grounds camp. Evacuation of Awapuni racecourse was the first move.
