EXPORT APPLES

GOOD QUALITY FRUIT The Agricultural Department fruit inspectors at Nelson report that good quality fruit is being received for the first overseas shipment of 26,000 cases by the Port Dunedin. The Cox’s Orange, .though a little small, are of good quality. The total of the shipment comprises 23,500 from Nelson, 1500 from Hawkes Bay an.l 1000 from Marlborough. Yesterday 2800 cases were received at Port Mapua and to-day 7000 cases are being sent from the three Nelson ping points to Wellington. Next week the picking of Dunns is expected to help considerably towards finding 26,000 cases, tho quota for the Coptic, which sails from Wellington on 28th February.

INSPECTING OFFICERS Mr J. H. Thorp, chief orchard inspector on the Nelson side of the district, will this year have most of his time taken up by the new experimental orchard on Stewart's Estate. The inspecting officers at the different shipping points are as follows:—Mapua— Messrs M.- Davy, I. Inwood, and M. Talbot. Motueka —Messrs G. Stratford, J. Anderson and R. G. Hamilton. Nelson—Messrs A. T. Douglas, H. Frost and R. E. Binfield. Mr T. Conway has been transferred back to Christchurch and Mr Frost will take his place at Nelson from the beginning of next month.
