DESTROYED BY FIRE
A GISBORNE SHOW PLACE (By Telegraph—Press Association) GISBORNE, This Day. The Eastwood Hill residence of Mr W. D. Cook, situate in beautiful grounds which formed one of the show places of the district, was destroyed by fire. A valuable collection of curios was lost. The house was insured for £ISOO and the contents for £2250 in the Phoenix Office.
TWO OUTBREAKS IN BLENHEIM DISTRICT BLENHEIM, This Day. A five-roomed dwelling owned by J. J. Deboo and occupied by T. H. Calcraft, at Riverlands, was totally destroyed by | fire! Being beyond the borough boundary there were no fire fighting appliances. The insurance was £6OO on the house and £IOO on the furniture and effects in the Victoria office. Early this morning a seven-roomed dwelling owned and occupied by S. E. Brown was badly gutted by fire. The cause is said to be from an electric iron left switched on. The rear of the premises are used as a laundry and a considerable amount of linen belonging to three hotels and private owners was destroyed. The house was insured for £6OO in the State office and the contents for £3OO in the British Tradei's office.
