RELIEF FUND

NELSON LADIES’ COMMITTEE APPEAL FOR CLOTHES The appeal for clothes for residents of the earthquake area by the Nelson Relief Committee has met with a good response and all this week at the City Council Chambers a committee of ladies —Mesdames C. Milner and R. Watson, and Miss Tomlinson, assisted by Mesdames Davis, Lemmer and Dyson, and Misses Atkinson and Niven have been engaged in folding and packing clothes in cases which are despatched each day, as they are completed, to depots at Palmerston North, the Red Cross Wellington, and men’s clothing direct to Napier. The Anchor Shipping Co. is kindly carrying the cases free of charge. Not only have the_ ladies despatched garments to the stricken towns but they have also supplied clothes to some of the refugees who have arrived in Nelson. The ladies’ of Tahunanui have also been busy collecting and making up garments and an array (two cases) of useful clothes which included men’s, women’s and children’s clothing of excellent quality have been received from them and these have already gone forward.

The Brightwater ladies under Mrs T. Newman are also busily engaged on this useful work. The Nelson Ladies’ Committee desire to gratefully acknowledge the gifts of clothing already sent in and to advise that donations of clothes, men’s and boy’s suits, underwear and pyjamas, women’s and children’s clothing will be gladly received by them, as they are still busily occupied in, the voluntary work of sending on clothes which are so urgently required for - those in need.
