l' /DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB \;: : .r" : A FLOURISHING BODY The marked increase in the member* sljip of the Motueka Defence Rifle Club: this season is adequate proof of the keep interest that is being taken in rifle shooting. Several of the new incumbers have already proved themselves capable shots, and with their handicaps,, are likely to give the veterans a good run in the various competitions. The Government grant of. ammunition and the loan of rifles to cxrterritorials has no doubt been partly responsible for the added interest in the club. The Motueka range, weH equipped with targets and other accessories, affords every opportunity -. to ; iuembers to become proficient riflemejji. With regard to trophies, the club lias been fortunate in. this respect. Besides the Hudson (senior) and E.,J. Wills (junior) cups, fine trophies hiye ■been received from Messrs W. D. arid H. 0. Wills, the National Tobacco Co. and the Colonial Ammunition Co., and 'btlifeVf Valuable trophies' are likely to ,come'ffb hand. .'

; -' The"'"club anticipates sending com* i petitors to Tapawera in February to compete in the Yearns match and to enter for the championship belt. ''. A team will also be sent to'Tapawera in June to compete for the Irvine Shield. The local club-hopes that a number, of home and home shoots with other clubs of the Nelson district will be arranged during the season. These matches not only create a friendly atmosphere but are of v invaluable asindividual members in the gaining of experience. »: On Saturday the fourth shoot for, the Hudson and E. J. Wills cups took place under favourable weather conditions, the scores being as under:—
