DAMAGE BY FIRE

MILKING SHED DESTROYED

PAHIATUA, This Day

A big milking shed with milking plant, electric motor, and 40 tons ol nay, belonging to Ernest S. Holdaway, of Ballance, was destroyed by fire late on Saturday night. The insurance was £7BO in the State office.

The first fire for some time to threaten the business centre occurred at 9 o'clock last evening, partly gutting the premises on Rosemount road occupied by F. Timan.us and Co., ironmongers, 11. Carbutt, grocer, and R. Toomey, hootmaker. Splendid work by the brigack" prevented the fire spreading lo an adjoining shop. The buildings were owned by 11. Bcrridge's estate and were insured for £SOO. Timanus and Go's, stock was insured for £IOOO, Carbutt's for £2OO, and Toomey's for £250.

INCENDIARISM SUSPECTED WANGANUI, This Day. Incendiarism is suspected in connection with a fire at Wanganui East school last night. The front room of the wooden building was badly damaged. The fire seems to have started in two places. The brigade found a trail of paper laid on the floor for a distance of four feet. Marks on the outer wall point to someone having gained access through a window.
