NEW PARTY MOVEMENT INDEPENDENT REFORM ASSOCIATION PLANKS OP PLATFORM (By Telegraph—Speoial to "The Mail") CHRISTCHURCH, 2nd. June. Believing that the present position in politics is unsatisfactory, both jfrom the Reform and United Party interests, and has been so for a number of years, a Christchurch man has taken steps to form an Independent Political Reform Association. He has announced the objects of the new movement for the first time to-day. Mr S. Perrin is the organiser of the movement. He is confident that it will be accorded good support in Canterbury, and will inevitably spread to the other centres. In an announcement made to-day it is stated that for some years past there has been dissatisfaction in Reform ranks at the manner in which those responsible for the administration of the Reform Party have departed from the objects, ideals, and planks of the party. The last election had given voice to the general dissatisfaction in no uncertain manner. "The times are critical, and when men have been tried and found wanting it is unusual to give them a second chance," continues the announcement.
"For this reason the Independent Political Reform Association is being formed. This organisation being independent, will give its support to the present Administration only if it makes an earnest endeavour to put the country's welfare before personal ambitions."
Briefly the following planks are put forward for intending members to consider : Abolition of land tax and the substitution of income tax as soon as possible; the repeal of the .compulsory clauses* in the ' various control Acts; curtailment of the Public Service; the governing of the country by Parliament and hot by. the Public Service; annulment ,of all orders-in-council unless confirmed by Parliament within six weeks of the opening of the House; the encouragement of private enterprise; abolition of the Board of Trade Act; revision of the Arbitration Acb; reduction of taxation by economies; and efficiency in the Civil Service by the encouragement of individualism and by calling a halt-in the extension of public arid social service.
