BOOKMAKING IN HOTELS
LICENSING COMMITTEE'S WARNING (By Telegraph—Praia Association)
WELLINGTON, This Day. Tho Magistrate, Mf Page, said, at tho annual meeting of the Licensing Committee to-day, .that the committee will view with disfavour applications for renewal of licenses where it is shown that bookmaking is, or lias been, carried on. Inspector Rawle said that unfortunately betting was not an offence under the Licensing Act. Further, to prove that an hotel was improperly conducted improper conduct must be supplemented with drunkenness.
