HARBOUR IMPROVEMENTS

(To the Editor)

Sir, —I have to thank Mr Duncan for the information contained in his letter of last night and which enables the whole district to get a right perspective of the proposed harbour improvements, its relation to the fruit industry and district. Mr Duncan does not favour a harbour improvement rate on all inward and outward cargo but suggests a conference of delegates from his Board, the Chamber of Commerce and Progress League, to consider the best method to adopt. I am informed that Mr Duncan contemplates a visit to tho Old Country shortly. Will he as chairman of the Harbour Board take immediate steps to call this conference at the earliest possible moment so that the same may be placed before the ratepayers, and, if carried, enable these most vital and necessary improvements to he executed with the utmost possible dispatch? The time is now. ' I am, etc., C. P. STANNARD. Nelson, .'list May.
