BRITISH FOOTBALL TEAM

PROPOSED NELSON VISIT REPRESENTATIONS BY ...PROGRESS LEAGUE Although Nelson has been included in the itinerary of the British touring football team, it has not yet been definitely decided that a game will be played here, the visitors having expressed the desire that the match be cancelled. The Nelson Rugby Union has made representations to the N.Z.R.U. over the matter, and the present position is that the visit is still "in the air."

At the meeting of the executive committee of the Nelson Provincial Progress League yesterday afternoon a suggestion was made that a letter be sent to the manager of the British team asking that the match be played at Nelson. It was stated that the only reason which justified the League coming into the matter was that it was a reflection on the province that Nelson should be left out. All other visiting cricket and football teams had played at Nelson, and it was considered that no exception should be made with the present team. A resolution on the lines suggested was carried.
