Hunters Steeplechase of 175 sovs; miles.—s Kuku, 9.0 (E. Mackie) 1; 2 Red Heather, .9.10, 2; 1 French Meet, 10.6, 3. Scratched: Loughrea, Hyperion. Won by 12 lengths, ten lengths between second and third horses. Time, 5.36 4-5: ELLERSLIE TRACK NOTES (By Telegraph—Spec'ial to "The Mail") AUCKLAND, This Day. The weather was showery this morning for training work at Ellerslie, but there was a large attendance of spectators who were provided with some interesting work. No. 1 grass track was open for fast work and tnere ;ras some schooling over hurdles erected on the outside of the course proper and also on the steeplechase course. The going was inclined to be heavy. During schooling on the track this morning Rawhetu fell and broke a leg and had to be destroyed. The rider, P. Foster, was sent to hospital . Among the steeplechaser candidates to go well were Matu, Mangani, and Master Lu, while Mister Gamp, Aurora Borealis, and King's Jest gave good displays over the hurdles. Good performances on the flat w ere also registered by Maori Boy, Seatbwn, Eager Rose, and Nancy Lee.
