JOHNSON

(United Press Association—By Eleotrio '•telegraph—Copyright)

(Received 30tli May, 12.40 p.m.) LONDON, 29th May,

In the Amateur Golf Championship the ex-Australian champion Michael Scott defeated the American Walker Cup player, Von Elm at the 20th hole. In the sixth round Jones beat Johnson, the American amateur champion, one up. Grant (St. George’s) beat Scott three up and one to play. Bobby Jones had another narrow escape, only heating Johnson by a ticklish putt on the last green. Jones, when four up with five' to play, looked an easy winner but Johnson fought back gamely till Jones was dormy one. Ten thousand people rushed to see the dramatic finish. Jones and Voiglit are the only Americans left in the last eight and these two meet to-morrow.
