RICHMOND BOROUGH COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING At the fortnightly 'meeting of the Richmond Borough Council there were present: The Mayor (Mr H. Warren Kelly in the chair), Councillors: Croucher, Haycock, Newport, Schroder, Smallbone anil Hill. Accounts amounting to £BB 12s 8d were passed for payment. The chairman of the Highways Council advised that the Main Highways Board will arrive in Nelson on Wednesday 30th April and inquired if the Council wish to pieet the Board the time and place could be arranged. In response to this notice the Mayor had interviewed the, chairman and preparations are in hand to have the specifications and plans prepared of Salisbury and Gladstone roads to meet the requirements of the District Highways Council with the view'of petitioning the Board for a- subsidy equal to that of toe adjourning local body, which if obtained, application will be made to the Loans Board for a loan, which if obtained under favourable conditions will not cost the ratepayers anything, the, amount saved in maintenance meeting loan liabilities. From Mr Ledger applying for subdivision of part section 88.—Granted. From the Tahunanui Town Board calling a meeting of representatives from tlio local bodies to discuss the motor omnibus regulations.—The Mayor, and Councillor Schroder represent this Council. ...

The Automobile Association inquiring what is being done witli the section ot road between the county boundary and Queen street, Richmond. —It was resolved that the Automobile Association bo written, to informing them of what, the Council were doing and suggested that this Council would be pleased of any assistance the Association can give, to bring the necessity of sealing those portions of • the main highway not done, before the Highways Board, with a view to their completion. From the secretary of the Kia Ora Hockey Club asking for portion of the Recreation Ground for a playing area.— Granted.

From the Permanent Building Society re crossing to Crouchers property.—Received.

From residents in Salisbury road re borough water and the offensiveness of the Freezing Works.—Received. The football and hockey clubs have been, provided for at the Recreation Ground, by having the grass burned, and sheds and conveniences put in order with a view to giving both the local players and visitors the very best of conditions for their sport, during the coming season. The reserves committee recommended the painting and repairing of the mortuary chapel, and buildings in the recreation ground, and other small improvements. The library committee resolved that a letter of appreciation and thanks be sent to the two ladies who have selected the library books for the past year. It was resolved that the chairman of (he Ministers’ Association be written to asking what arrangements are being made for holding service on Anzac Day.

The footpath in George and William street is to be put in order. The Mayor’s report appears elsewhere in this issue.
