Losses of £2,084,000 on the State railways and £348,250 on trams during the year were forecasted by the Treasurer, Mr Stevens, in his financial statement to the Assembly.

Legislation is being considered authorising the withholding of lower freight rates from" consignors who utilise road transport for a portion of their business; also to withhold in similar cases the starving stock rate.
