NAVAL CONFERENCE
POLITICAL ASPECTS A RIFT IN THE CLOUDS ANGLO-FRENCH DISCUSSIONS (United Press Asfociation—By Electrio Uelegraph—Copyright) (Received 2nd April, 9.55 a.m.) LONDON, Ist April. In the House of Commons Mr MacDonald said that tho Government had no intention of undertaking any commitments going beyond the obligations of the Covenant of the League of Nations, or the Treaty of Locarno. France had never asked Britain to do so. A rift in the clouds developed in the morning when the spokesman announced that ihe political aspects of the conference would be further discussed. Mr Henderson and M. Briaml assisted the British and French experts in order to prosecute the search for a formula giving Franco the desired security within the scofe of existing machinery for the maintenance of peace; also to strengthen such machinery. Those conferences have already proceeded satisfactorily during the last 24 hours, and have" bee l attended by distinct progress.
