THE LUNCHEON
BIRTHDAY CAKE FOR ARCHBISHOP
After the service in the church nearly all present adjourned to the Y.M.C.A. Hall and partook of a very excellent .luncheon provided by the Wakefield people. More than 200 persons sat down at the tables which filled the Hall. Thf: guests were admirably wait.d on by {he men and women of the township, aijd an abundance of "good things' 1 a<j been provided. The health of His Grace—proposed by Father O'Connell—was drunk with musical honours, as was also "the health of the people of Wakefield" proposed by His Grace. In view of the fact that the Archbishop will celebrate his 91st birthday on the Bth of April next, a large and beautiful birthday cake had been provided. On this were placed 91 lighted candles—one for each year of his life. It j was apparent, His Grace was much touched with this unexpected expression of good will by the people, '/]).• cake was cut and the pieces were distributed amongst the guests. Before returning to town most of the visitors found their way to the Wakefield Domain, where an hour or two was spent in talking over the events of the day, and in quiet enjoyment under the shade of the trees. The weather throughout the day was perfect.
