FRUIT AND VEGETABLES
MARKETING CONDITIONS
CRITICISM OF INSPECTOR REPUDIATED (By Telegraph—Press Association)
WELLINGTON, This Day. At a 'gathering of fruit retailers today the subject of conditions under which the marketing of fruit and vegetables takes place was discussed at some length. Several of those present expressed the view that the retailers' representative who recently interviewed the Hon. G. W. Forbes on the question had no mandate to criticise the market inspector and the Agriculture Department. The general opinion was that the inspector did his duty as efficiently as possible and was not responsible for any unsatisfactory features of the present state of affairs. "If any one is to blame," said one speaker, ''it is the retailers themselves. What is wanted is closer co-operation between retailers and the inspector." It was considered that potatoes, cabbages and cauliflowers should be graded in the same way as apples.
