CRASH AT PAPAWAI
PILOT ESCAPES SERIOUS INJURY (By Telegraph—Press Association) MASTERTON, This Day. An all-metal Avro Avian* aeroplane, belonging to A. V. Jury,' of Papawai, Greytown, crashed on Saturday afternoon when landing at Willowburn the property of the owner. Jury, who was pilot, was not seriously injured. The machine encountered an air pocket after the engine had been cut off and fell about 150 feet, striking some willow trees. One lower wing then struck a bank and the 'plane came to rest against a stump, but did not capsize. Jury was struck by a willow branch and had some teeth knocked out when he was thrown against the windscreen, but otherwise he escaped injury, although rendered unconscious for about ten minutes.
The machine was very badly damaged, although the engine appears to be intact.
