NELSON DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB SATURDAY'S SHOOTS The Nelson Defence Riflo Club continued its championship series with a shoot at Quarantine on Saturday over 500 and 600 yards ranges, 10 shots with two optional sighters. Ideal weather conditions prevailed and some good scores were registered, particularly at 500 yards range, but the bad light towards tho latter part of the afternoon accounted for a lowering of tho scores at tho longer range. Tho outstanding score off the riflo for tho day was a 49 by K. Inwood, out of a possible 50. At 500 yards, J. Vitetta followed him closely with a 48, four other competitors registering 46's. At 600 yards a 46 by L. Dixon was the best off tho gun, followed by 45's by K. Inwood and „W. A. Kenning. Tuwood with his 49 and 45, handicap 1, 95, headed tho list for the day and got tho leg-in for the trophy, It. E. Norm wit I) 46 at 500, 44 at 600, handicap 4, 94, boing in second place, followecf by L. Dixon with 46-46-1—93. Inwood cut out a 4 for his first sighting shot and went on with a string of nine bulls, his tenth shot, a 4, just missing tho bull—49_a good shoot. At 600 yards he cut out two inncrs as sighters and went on with 4545445545—45. The following are details of the scores: —
NOTES For the Senior Feathers Inwood won from Vitetta with 94 off the rifle and R. E. Norris with 90 regained tho Junior Feathers fromßurn. Tho following will represent the Club in the match against the N.R.A. at BA'ightwater next Saturday: S. Barnett, P. F. Burn. L. Dixon. F. Glodhill, K Inwood, W. Kenning, W. Mitcheiior, R.' E. Norris, E. C. Russell, H. V. Searle, F. Sharland, J. Vitetta; emergencies, C. Batchelor, H. Cheeseman, R. Kenning. With five shoots gone out of tho six for the chanjpionship, all to count, tho position of the leading competitors is as follows: F. Sharland 454, L. Dixon 452, W. A. Kenning 452, J. Vitetta 445. For the handicap aggregate tho following is the position: P. F. Bum 461, L Dixon 459, H. Flower 456, F. Sharland 454, W. Kenning 452, J. Vitetta 447, R Norris 447, C. Batchelor 443, R. Kenning 442, W. Mitchener 441, E. C. Russell 437, S. Barnett 441. For the Raynor Cup (all championship and long-range shoots, with handicap) P F. Burn has a lead of 6 points—79o, H Flower '7BO, F. Sharland 784, J. Vitetta 779, W. Kenning 770, E. C. Russell 758. The next Club shoot will bo 10 shots at each 300 and 500 yards at Quarantine (if available). It is the final of the championship series and will count for the Wastney Cup.
