RICHMOND

BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Richmond Borough Council was held last evening, when there were present: The Mayor (Mr H. Warren Kelly), Councillors H. Schroder, W. Hill, H. Newport, E. Smallbone, P. Haycock, and E. Croucher. Accounts totalling £lO3 13s Id were passed for payment. A letter from the Main Highways Board stated that the board would be touring the northern part of the South Island after Easter.

E. W. Win drew the Council's attention to damage done near his premises by the ditch passing by his property near May's Corner. On the advice of the Works Committee it was resolved that no action be taken.

The Waimea Football Club was granted the use of the Recreation Ground during the coming season on the usual conditions.

The foreman reported as follows: "Salisbury, Gladstone and Appleby roads, also Lower Queen street, have been graded. Appleby road has been graded twice and the ditch deepened along the filling. Grass in the Recreation ground has been burnt and thistle and gorse grubbed. The ditch in Gladstone road has been cleaned out and the bank cut back in the ditch at the old tip. The footpath in Salisbury road has been cleaned up. The following gravel has been carted: Wensley road, 6 yards; William street, 1£ yards. About 26 yards of stone have been taken out of the Gladstone road ditch." Arising from the report it was decided that a number of residents who had not yet fitted ball-cocks to their water-troughs be notified that these must be attended to.

GENERAL BUSINESS It was unanimously resolved that £2 2s be donated to the Cancer Research Fund and a similar amount to the Obstetrical Society's fund. The foreman reported that the level of the water at the reservoir had fallen a ,foot since last meeting, the level now being 2ft 6in. below the It was resolved that the question of water restriction be left to the Waterworks Committee to take action when necessary.
