PARKERSON'S FLIGHT

BUT CRASHES NEAR PARIS

(Received 24th March, 1 p.m.) LONDON, 23rd March. Parkerson's flight to Australia was begun from Lympne under conditions of the utmost secrecy at 6 o'clock in the morning, but came to an abrupt ending at Lizsurouce, about 40 miles east of Paris. The machine crashed and overturned, and was wrecked. The pilot escaped with bruises and shock. Parkerson had been waiting for seven

weeks for a favourable opportunity. The weather showed signs of improvement during the week-end, and he decided to - make the long delayed start. The Moth 'plane which he was flying was specially fitted with auxiliary tanks, which had been filled with the intention of making a long hop on the first day. Only half a dozen aerodrome officials were present, as Parkerson had kept all his plans secret. He confided, however, that he' hoped to beat Hinkler's record. Conditions in the Channel were calm and visibility was good as he .took off perfectly. Parkerson is a New Zealand business man and is connected with the jute industry. He is an enthusiastic flier and is a member of the Cinque Ports Plying .Club.
