VISIT OF MEMBER FOR MOTUEKA

REPRESENTATIONS TO MINISTERS

WESTPORT, This Day.

Air G. C. Black, M.P., who has been in the Karamea district since Thursday, returned to Westport last evening after having walked over the inland road which was so badly shaken during the earthquake and viewed the progress being made on restoration work which is employing 260 men. While in Karamea he inspected the silting of the river which prevents boats working Karamea Harbour. He attended a conference of settlers and the Public Works Engineer in regard to a wharf reconstruction scheme. He also visited Little Wanganui and the Public Works camp at Taff.vtown where the workers were met and complaints investigated. As a result of his visit Air Black has made representations to the Prime Minister regarding the present state of the Karamea river, and the postal facilities at Little Wanganui. Air Black also has urged the Minister of Public Works to have the sanitation of Taff.vtown Camp attended to, that chimneys be provided (lie tents, and that the change house lie improved. He also wired the Minister of Marine requesting improvements of cargo storage at Wanganui.. The member for Alotueka proceeds to Reefton on Wednesday where lie will attend the Inangahua A. and P. Show on Friday, and then leave for the Murchison Show which is to be held on Saturday. The Rt. Hon. Sir Joseph Ward has informed Air Black that as a result of liis representations the Hon. W. A. Veitcli is making every endeavour to be present to open the show.
