A PROPER SPORTS GROUND FOR NELSON
(To file Editor)
Sir.—Without expressing any opinion regarding the casus belli that seems to have unfortunately arisen between the Nelson Jockey Club and the .Motor Cycle Sports committee, the bitch is such as is likely to deprive those so keenly interested in motor cycle rat ing of witnessing a meeting here this year, and the incident calls attention to the urgent need of a proper spoils ground for the City of Nelson, grounds sufliciently extensive in size to cater for motor sports, and all kindred sports. As lias been frequently pointed out lielore, ample space exists on the mudlbiL on Nelson’s front door, all that is needed is reclamation, and the bills are ready and waiting nearby to be lipped on to the flat. If that portion of the flat located between North road and Cemetery point was filled in, sudieieiit land would be available, for the purpose indicated, and in close proximity to the city, too, where all interested would feel that they bad a right to the grounds, and not admitted merely mi sufferance, and on the sweet will of the governing power. Some talk, and a great deal of printer’s ink. has been recently expended upon the proposed mudflat reclamation. Jt is about time some sort of a practical start, was made. All the Hat land in Nelson is taken up, one way and another, but (here arc miles moi e at our front door crying aloud to be properly used. A start would lie a great tiling. Once get a start and reclamation would go ahead, of that I feel sure. When we saw what could be done, we would wonder what on earth we could have been duIntr all these vears.—l am, etc., n ■ 01 IS KEY HR.
