FILL THE GAP!

(To the Editor)

Sir,—l was indeed surprised to read "Help Kill the Gap's" letter in "The Mail." and equally surprised to learn of the apathy (in the part of our Progress League. One would have thought by the noise made by our local M's.P., ami the wonderful promises of the Prime Minister ami his Ministers when visiting this district some months ago. (hat the railway would be. nearly lo Murchison by now. 11. is up to all Nelson to push the railway for all they are worth during (he next few months, as the present Government is by no means increasing its popularity, and who knows but what we might have a prudent Government in power al any lime that will decide to run 'he Railways on commercial lines, and so release the taxpayer of a- heavy burden bv discontinuine the completion of the Nelson-West Coast section nf railway. So push Nelson for all you are worth ilming the next six mouths, lor if you do not it may be too late as in all possibility a change of Government may see the railways of New Zealand removed from political control, and run in the interests of the majority. If such should happen, then it will be good-bye Nelson Railway, and the discontinuing of this all-important line, would give some of our local prophets who picture such a great future for Nelson a deal of pain should they lose this political toy. —I am. etc, ANXTOUS.
