NELSON AND TAHUNA GRANT TO PIONEERS’ MEMORIAL FUND On Saturday evening the weekly session of the Loyal Nelson Lodge was held in the Rechabites’ Hall, presided over by Chief Templar Somerville. The monthly epitome was read by the secretary, under the caption of “How our cause speeds oil its way in New Zealand,” showing that rapid strides were being made in Otago, where new lodges and .temples were being opened, and in Auckland, where Bro. Melville Watts, of HALS. Diomede, recently re planted the order, hv opening the Auck land Endeavour Lodge, now reported to be over sixty strong and adding now in embers weekly.
The secretary ulsq; reported on the very successful concert held the previous w'eek in the School of Music, given Ivy the Band and concert party of it.M.S. Diomede. The net proceeds were reported to be £l7 Bs. It was decided to make a grant of £lO to the Pioneers’ Memorial Fund, and the balance to the G.L. of Good Templars extension: fund. A very hearty vote of thanks was passed and ordered to be sent tn Bro. Melville Watts, and other members aboard the Diomede for the splendid concert arranged by them. It was reported that the supper provided for the bandsmen and entertainers at the Velina Hall after the concert lmd been greatly appreciated. Prior to. the lodge , the weekly session; of the Hope of Nelson was held, presided over by Chief Templar Sis. Freda Gubb. After the temperance lesson of the opening service, a very fine programme was provided by the Sisters of the Temple, the items including pianoforte solos by Sis. Joan Godmun and Joan Mitchell, pianoforte, duet by Sis Hodman and Freda Gulib. recitations by Sis. Juan Mitchell and Joan Williams, songs hv Sis. M. Gubb and P.i'O. Watson. snpt.. and a trio bv Sis. M. and F. Gubb and Mitchell. Sis. Joan Godinan provided a surprise packet which caused keen interest. The vocal items were accompanied at the piano by Sis. Mrs Gubb. The sisters were heartily thanked for their pleasant evening’s programme. and it. was announced that next week was to he brothers’ night.
The superintendent of the Tahuua Temple, reported on Ihe weekly session held in the Talmtin Public Hall on the previous Wednesday evening. Bro. Watson. supi. of the Nelson Temple, paid a visit, and referred to the concert in Ihe School of Music given by the men on IT.M.S. Diomede, and conveyed the regret of the brothers aboard, in being unable to visit Ihe Taluma Temple. The items for Ihe evening was a recital ion contest. Recitals were given by Rms. Clarke. Jackman. Alec and Gordon Stewart. Oscar and Nelson Eves. Fro. Watson of Nelson acting as judge for the contest awarded the prize to Bro. W. Clarke, as being the best, including good conduct. The item for next session was announced as “storvette”’ night.
