CALIFORNIAN FRUIT CROPS

SEVERELY DAMAGED BY FROST (United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Australian Press Association— United Service) SAN FRANCISCO, 9th April. Damage estimated at nearly 50,000,000 dollars has been done to tree fruits, nuts and grapes as the result of frost. FROSTS CONTINUE NEW YORK, 10th April. News from San Francisco states that continued frosts over most of California are believed to have added further damage to the fruit crops to-day, but agricultural authorities refused to place a definite estimate on the damage. Predictions indicated that some moderation might be expected in southern and central California to-night. The damage to fruits was estimated at as high as 50,000,000 dollars to-day by Mr E. E.- Kaufman, chief of the crop reporting service. He said he expected the yield of fruit and nuts which brought 100,000,000 dollars to producers last year, would be cut in half bv the severe weather. Frost damage to crops in the Yuba, Sutter and Butte counties alone aggregates 10,000,000 dollars.
