EXPORT TRADE SOUTH AMERICAN SALE AT HIGH PRICES The value of the South American fruit market to New Zealand growers is shown by a sale just completed by the New Zealand Fruit Export Control Board at prices which represent a handsome return to growers. In a circular to exporters the board state that they have completed through their South American agents a sale.of 25,000 cases of apples to that market on the following terms and prices:—. 16,000 Delicious at 20s per case. 6000 Jonathans at 17s per case. 3000 Dunns at 15s per case. All c.i.f. South American ports. The prices are attractive and the quantity represented is between 20 and 25 per cent, of the total fruit available for the South American market this season. MIDDLESEX LOADING The Middlesex finally took from Nelson 42,150 cases of fruit. Her allocation was 60,000 cases, but wet weather alone was responsible for the full allocation not being forthcoming. Had favourable conditions prevailed, the full quantity would have been available. ADVANCE ON GOOD GRADE The Fruit Control Board has decided to make an advance of Is 6d a case on "good" grade this season. This decision has been arrived at in view of the market prospects, and is not to be taken as a precedent. STURMERS FOR SOUTH AMERICA The question of Stunners for South America has been receiving the attention of the Control Board for some time, and negotiations have been proceeding with the board's brokers at Monte Video. The brokers state that there-is no demand for this variety in South America, and consider it unwise to send anything but a small quantity of the right sizes—say 88 to 100 to the case. In view of the unpopularity of the variety the brokers will not quote any prices. The board considers it must be guided by the advice of its brokers," but is of opinion that an experimental shipment should be made of a limited quantity of large-sized Sturmers. •'*
