BOWLING

EASTER TOURNAMENT

FIRST DAY'S PLAY About 40 rinks, including representatives of several North Island and West Coast clubs, participated in the Nelson. Centre's Easter tournament which commenced yesterday on the Nelson and and Maitai Clubs' greens. Sections A and B were located on the Nelson greens and section C on the Maitai. The rain earlier in the week had made the turf rather on the heavy side, and many players found it rather difficult in the earlier part of the day to '"'be up." The weather was calm but overcast. The president of the Nelson Centro (Mr G. P. Russell) made a brief speech on the Maitai green before play commenced, extending a hearty welcome to the visitors, and expressing the hope that they would have an enjoyable stay in Nelson. Mr S. M. Stone (Seatounj, president of the Dominion Bowling Association, responded. Three rounds were played, the rinks with no losses being:—Section A: Mortem (Karori), Sorenson (Masterton). Section B: Piper (Maitai); B. Goodwin (Mapua); Gray (Kelburn). Section C: Ching (Wakefield); Stevenson (Hokitika). The results of the games were: — SECTION A FIRST ROUND J. Chapman, H. P. Forster, G.
