MEETING OF EXPERTS OPENING PROCEEDINGS PROLONGED INQUIRY EXPECTED (United Press Association.—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright.) (Australian Press Association) PARIS, 12tli February. business-like start was mado by the reparation experts, who at the last moment decided to meet at the Hotel George V. instead of the Astoria in order to avoid sitting in artificial light. The committee, after unanimously electing Mr Owen Young as chairman, settled matters of procedure. It is intended to keep no wordy minutes of tho proceedings but only a record of the conclusions reached. It was further decided that a.general secretariat was unnecessary, and such work as occasionally will be required will be performed by Mr Fred Bate, an American attached to the Reparations Commission in Paris. The Committee work, as arranged at present, will be done in full sessions, not in sections. -The hours fixed provisionally are 11 and 3 o’clock daily. Deputy delegates will bo present on all occasions, but will not participate in the' discussions.

These points disposed of M. Moreau briefly presented tho French viewpoint as regards the committee's task. Thus their labours began. It is expected that the inquiry will be prolonged and doubtless yield a daily crop of rumours, but these may be disregarded as the experts are not likely to indulge in tittle tattle. People of the nations must await authoritative pronouncements with patience end confidence. The “Financial News” remarks: “A reasonable settlement lias become of such palpable interest to all concerned, that nothing short of an extremely untoward incident can avert it.”
