RAILS AND MOTORS
MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT POLICY TO BE ADOPTED STATEMENT BY HON W. A. VEITCH (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WANGANUI, This Day. The Hon. W. A. Veitch was asked to-day by a “Herald” reporter what the new portfolio of Minister of Transport implied. Mr Veitch said he was not going to be so foolish as to proclaim a complete policy and system of organisation at this stage. Already misconceptions have arisen as to what the creation of {he new portfolio of transs port implies, some having the impression that it is to be in the nature of a struggle for existence on the system of pull devil pull beggar as between the railway and motor transport services. As a matter of fact the foremost feature of his work will be exactly in the opposite direction. .It is not intended to continue the effort to force traffic on to the rails, but by the application of goodwill and commonsense, and without compulsion or unnecessary interference with the rights of the people he believed it was possible to correlate motor traffic with the railways, so that both may serve the people better.
