The winter is spent in 'the e £S state on tlie shoots of- many kinds ot tiees arid shrubs. When the eggs natch the young bugs feed upon the foliage of the host plant by piercing the tissue and sucking out the juices. This piercing causes-serious marking and distortion of the foliage. As the bugs gt. older they wander off from the origina host and'attack herbaceous plants, noth wild and- 'cultivated, and chrysanthemums are often attacked. When young the bugs are very like green ny c --‘ uept that they can run about very rapidly. As they get older wings are developed, And when mature they can fly well and run very rapidly. L here arc two generations of tho pest in the year. As soon as an attack of 'He res is noted the plants' affected should be well sprayed with a good nicoune waslu but the work must be well done or it is useless. A knapsack sprayer should be used, and the nozzle should be directed to the top of the plant, first rapidly bringing it down to the base of the plant, turning it quickly and working back up the plant; any bugs falling to tho ground must- be sprayed, 100. Repeat the' spraying after an inter val of seven days.
