The Whangarei Hospital Board appointed Sister Swayne to the matronship qf Whangarei Hospital vice Miss Cookson, resigned to take up the position o: lady superintendent at Wellington Hospital.—Press Association.
Mr Walter Henry Bailey, a retired farmer, formerly of Kimbolton, Feilding, died in Wellington on Saturday, aged 78. It is understood lie leaves a substantial bequest to public institutions, including the City Council.— Press Association.
Miss May Page, for many years head mistress of the Central Takaka School, is retiring on superannuation, and forwarded hei' resignation to the Nelson Education Board yesterday. The Board passed a resolution appreciative of the services rendered in the cause of education by Miss Page, and it was stated that the inspector in his last report had made special reference to the excellent work of the headmistress and of the groat' influence she exercised on the children.
