GIRL GUIDES' ASSOCIATION

MEETING OF COMMITTEE;

The first meeting of the Company Committee was held at .Mrs Hargreaves' rooms, when the following members were present:—Mesdames Edwards (chair). Thorp, Wallace, Stratford, York, and Misses Wratt (.2;, and Pierce. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames McGlashen, Green, Livesey, Wickens, and Fawcett. Mrs Edwards was appointed president of the Association and Mrs N. Ross was unanimously elected to the position of chairwoman. Mrs Ross welcomed Mrs York to^ the committee and regretted that Mrs Talbot had found if necessary to resign. Mrs Fawcett, another new member, was unable to be present owing to illness. The secretary stated that the insurance had become due and had been paid. A discussion regarding the Hudson Shield competition followed and Miss Wratt supplied particulars required. Miss Wratt (acting captain) read the Girl Guide report for October, as follows: —"We have entered on our fourth year and we would like to take this opportunity of thanking our committee and all who have assisted our company, during the past year, especially Mr F. Bowers for the use of his sample room for rallies. During the month we have enrolled two recruits—Helene and Betty Anderson ; two former guides have returned to us; we also have one new recruit. The patrols are all working for Mrs Hudson's trophy, the finals of which take place in December. We are working, as a company, for the Child Nurse badge, proficiency work taking the place of second class work. Badges won: Cook, N. Grossman, 1. Hawkins, N. Boyce; domestic, N. Boyce; 2nd class, N. Grossman, B. Beatson ; service star, N. Fawcett." Miss M. Wratt (Tawny Owl) read the Brownies' report:—"At present we have ten recruits, six of whom art- shortly to be enrolled. All recruits are. very enthusiastic and work, is progressing well. The three senior Brownies are working hard at Semaphore and liope soon to be ready for their test."' Since the last meeting Miss Lewin (Lieutenant) has received the Lieutenants' warrant from headquarters, Auckland. Miss Lewin has become guider to the. new company inlliwaka, which is to be enrolled next Saturday by our District Commissioner. W wish her and her company every success. Miss J']. Thorp and Miss E. Trewavas has also received their Lieutenant's warrants. OPEN-AIR CONCERT The Motueka Municipal Band, under the leadership of Mr 11. IT. Smith, gave an open-air concert in the band rotunda, recently erected at the beach by members of the Safe Bathing Society. Owing to boisterous weather bandsmen had to seek (lie shelter of the pine trees, for the rendering of the latter part of the programme. A large number of Motueka and Riwaka residents were present and thoroughly appreciated the excellent music. The programme was: March, "Num|,cr Three" : selection, "Village Carnival" ; march, "Colonel's Parade" ; hymn. '■.Abide with me" : march, "Old Comrades" ; waltz. "Ladv Gertrude" ; hvmn. "Lead Kindly Light" : selection, "Melbourne bv Night" : inarch, "Colonel Imgcv": 'National Anthem."
