MR HOOVER
TO VISIT SOUTH AMERICA
United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph— Copyright Australian Press Association
WASHINGTON, 10th November. The proposed goodwill visit by Mr Hoover on an American battleship to South America before his inauguration is considered here as one of the most important diplomatic moves ever undertaken by an American President-elect. There are few precedents for such an undertaking, but it is emphasised that America is growing aware "of the necessity for bettering relationships with Latin America. The United States' embargoes against Argentine meats, fruits and corn have engendered considerable ill-feeling in that republic, and unquestionably endangered the American market for manufactured goods. The United States has never held a favourable position in the South American market, and Mr Hoover's visit is considered a preliminary to an expansive movement by American manufacturers to compete'with British and German producers for the South American trade.
