OBITUARY
MR J. F. PEAKE

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. \\ idespread regret will be felt at the death of Mr J. F. Peake, one of the most popular figures in commercial am athletic life in Christchurch, which occurred suddenly yesterday afternoon. Mr Peake, who was born at Dunedii; 49 years ago, started his commercial career with Andrew Given, paper mer chants, subsequently entering the employ of Massey, Harris, being assistant general manager at the time ol his deatii. Cricket and football had no- more ardent supporter than Mr Leake. While in Dunedin he was connected with the Albion Cricket Club, for which he wa; wiekctkeeper, aiid played Rugby fco Union Club. On being" transferred t< Christchurch in 19Q5, Mr Peake joinei up with the West Christchurch Cricke Club and Albion Football Club.
As a Rugby referee be had very few equals, and for club, provincial, am international fixtures, his services wen in keen request, not only locally bul all over the Dominion. lie was electei secretary of the New Zealand Cricke Council in the 1913-14 season, and hi' services thereon have been of incalcul able 'benefit to the game. His sterling worth was recognised by the eouncß ii his appointment as manager of the i\ev Zealand team which visited Australia ii 1924. Yesterday morning Mr Peake was about as usual/ but while resting after din diatelv. He is survived by a widiv and t'wo children, a bov aged 16 an a girl 11.
