CLASH AT SUGAR CENTRE

BRITONS AND ITALIANS

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright

(Received 29th October, 9.58 a.m.) BRISBANE, This Day,

A clash between Britons and foreigners occurred at Daradgee, a sugar growing centre near Innisfail. Two men, Schultz and Thynes were slashed with razors, and an Italian named Colombi was arrested. The incident threatened to become a race riot, but the arrival of police averted this. Another disturbance at Innisfail resulted in a man named Buckingham being slashed. • It is alleged that he, with others, tried to molest an Italian who was a volunteer watersider. The latter, in self-defence against Buckingham, who was punching him, allegedly drew a razor. He afterwards gave himself up to the police.
