SWIMMING
THE COMING SEASON (Notes by “CrawiTj" Tlio annual general meeting of the Nelson Amateur Swimming Club will be belli at the Institute on Wednesday next. Particulars of the meeting will be advertised in the “Mail." All members and intending members should make a point of attending this meeting. CHARGES AT THE BATHS All bathers will appreciate the action of the Council in reducing the chargo for season tickets to 12s 6d. This reduction should result in a large increase in the number of patrons of the baths, together with au increase in'revenue. A concession ticket, entitling the bearer to 30 admissions to the baths 'has been fixed at Ss. TRAINING METHODS OF CHAMPIONS The impressions of Now Zealand’s Olympic swimming representatives arc most interesting regarding the training methods adopted by the various champions. What was 'most impressive was the amazing stamina of the swimming cracks, who possessed the ability to swim at top speed, no matter what the distance. Stamina is developed by the training methods adopted by all the cracks. Those training' for ‘short distances bad two daily pracicos, viz. 1000 yards in the morning and sprints in the
afternoon. Long distance swimmers swam at least one mile in the mor/iing and a similar distance in tho afternoon.
Many of our local fast swimmers, who at present are capable' of swimming only one or''tivo lengths of the'baths at top speed, could undoubtedly increase pace and stanlina by following tho training methods of the world’s champions.
