POLICY FOR COMING SEASON CONFERENCE AT WELLINGTON

The policy of the'New Zealand Fruit Board for the coming year is being discussed in Wellington, the chief representatives present "being Mr ' 11. E. Stephens, representative in London of the board, who arrived from England by the Karamea, and Mr W. A. Goodwin, the board's representative in South America, who arrived at Wellington by the Makura from San Francisco.

I Ml' Stephens (states the "uckland i"Herald") took to Wellington with him a report dealing with the past season, in Great Britain and the future prospects of the trade. 'Discussing the season, lie said New Zealand apples were the best packed of tliose obtainable in Great Britain. There was still room for improvement, but the efforts of the board were making themselves felt. The new case introduced two years ago had effected a change for the better, and New Zealand apples arrived in England in prime condition.Mr Stephens mentioned that in "his opinion New Zealand was sending to England too many varieties of apples, and there was a chance of some of the lesser-known varieties being IlGglocted". The most popular were Cox's, Grannie Smith, Jonathans, Stunner, Statesman, Delicious and Dunn's.

Just before leaving for New Zealand, Mr Stephens spent some time in Sweden and he considers there is a good opening for New Zealand apples in this country.
