COLLISION NEAR CARLISLE

LONDON, 25th October.

October's fifth railway smash occurred at 3 o'clock this morning north of Carlisle, when a double-header express from Euston to Aberdeen collided head on with a freight tmin. Two drivers and two firemen were killed. The. number of injured is unknown. The main lino is blocked with the wreckage. LUCKY CIRCUMSTANCES (Received 26th October, 9.16 a.m.) LONDON,, 25th October. It appears that 'the express overtook the freight train under the luckiest circumstances, as four of the leading vehicles on the express were fruit vans. These, with tho engines, toppled over into a field, the carnages remaining upright. The passengers simply walked out. Their injuries were of the slightest.
