Bishop Geary is making slow but satisfactory progress from the injuries he received in the motor-car accident near Hamilton recently! ' It is not expected he will' be about for, several weeks yet. Father Cyril Martindale, S.M.,- of London, who "was in the car at the time, is improving rapidly. - Mr G. W. Mcintosh, general manager of the National Bank of New Zealand, retires on pension at the end of this year. Mr G. T. Grose, inspector of the Bank of New South Wales for New Zealand, succeeds Mr Mcintosh, -joining the' National Bank on Ist September and taking over the general management on Ist January. Mr Mcintosh joined the National Bank at Greymouth in 1875. .Mr Grose is a native of Australia. He was connected with the board of administration which controlled the Commonwealth Defence Department during the war.—Fress Association.

At a meeting of the council of the Guild of St, Saviour's Orphanage, Bishop W r est-Watson presiding, the resignation of Mr H. M. Bannehr (an old Nelson boy and the elder son of Mr T. H. Bannehr, for manv years editor of the Nelson "Colonist") as organising t secretary and treasurer of the orphanages was received and accepted with great regret, wires "The Mail's" ChristI church correspondent. Several members expressed the* keenest regret that .Mr Bannehr had seen fit to terminate his position, and spoke in appreciation of the splendid services he had rendered during the 15 years he had been connected with the work, and for the last, eight years as organising secretary and treasurer. Mr Bannehr has accepted a position in the North Island. The death occurred on Saturday morning of Mrs Annie Trent, widow of.the late Mr Henry Trent, formerly Commissioner of Crown Lands, Napier.* Mrs Trent was born in Nelson, and with the exception of a few years on the West Coast, Marlborough 'and Napier, spent her whole life here. She leaves three . sons—Mr H. A. Trent, of Hawke's Bay: Mr A. L. Trent, of Upper Moutere; and Mr L. N. Trent, of Takaka : • and three daughters—Mrs J. Bird, of Westport! Mrs T. H. Bowie, of Auckland; and! Miss Trent, of Nelson. There are also eight grandchildren.
