PRICES AT ADDINGTON GOOD DISPLAY OF BEEF AND MUTTON CHRISTCHURCH. 9th August. There was a “double market” sale at Addington on account of the holiday next week. There was a good display of high class beef and mutton from various parts of the southern half of the North Island and all parts of the South Island. There was a good beef sale, and mutton practically held last week’s rates, notwithstanding an exceptionally heavy entry. Store Sheep: A small nondescript entry, with very few lines of good sheep. Ewes of class showed a slight advance, other sorts being'unchanged. Extra good crossbred ewe hoggets to 36s J3d, good three-quarterbred ewe .hoggets to 30s 9d, good halfbred wether hoggets 24s to 26s 6d, ordinary, halfbred wetuer hoggets 21s to 235, ordinary crossbred wether hoggets to 245, extra good 4,6, and 8-tooth halfbred ewes 38s to 41s, good 4 6, and 8-tooth halfbred ewes to 35s od, ordinary 4,6, and 8-tooth halfbred ewes 28s 6d to 31s 3d, extra good 2-tooth crossbred ewes to 40s, extra good 4,6, and 8-tooth crossbred ewes 36s 3d to 39s lOd, best 4, 6, and 8-tooth three-quarterbred. ewes to 365, backward ewes to 24s 6d, aged and inferior ewes to T7s, best halfbred wethers 32s 6d to 34s 6d, good halfbred wethers 28s to 30s, ordinary halfbred wethers to 275.

Spring Lambs: 16 milk lambs were forward, a couple selling at 48s 7d, or a good 2s a lb, and the others at about Is 6d.

Fat Sheep: An entry of 50 per cent., more than normal and a good sale throughout, with little change on an average from last week. Half a dozen of the best exhibition pens sold well, making to £7 2s 6d for a pen of three local wethers, other prices being £4 15s and £4 4s for two Southland pens, and £4 Is for another Canterbury pen. A line of 70 Hawke’s Bay wethers sold at from 52s 7d to 60s 6d. Values were as under: Exhibition wethers £4 to £7 2s 6d, extra heavy prime weth/rs 50s to 655, prime heavy wethers 44s to 47s 6d, prime medium weight wethers 40s to 43s 6d, medium wethers 35s to 38s, light wethers 32s to 34s 6d, exhibition ewes 54s to 595, extra prime heavy ewes 41s to 455, prime ewes 36s to 40s, medium ewes 31s to 355, light ewes 26s to 30s, old ewes 23s 6d to 25s 6d, extra good hoggets 42s 6d to 50s, medium hoggets 34s to 38s, ‘light hoggets 30s to 335. Fat Cattle: 605 were entered, including lines from the North Island, Southland, and West Coast. It was a high quality entry and a sharp rise in prices on last wiiek, approximating for ordinary cattle 40s a head. Best prices were £4O for a local bullock, £26 17s 6d for a heifer, and £25 10s for a cow. A line of 17 from Manawatu averaged £27 Bs, and odd cattle from other parts £3O to £33 for bullocks, and from £lB 10s to £2l 10s for cows and heifers. Best heifer beef made 52s to 575, best handy weight ox 50s to 555, best cow 49s to 525, good prime steer 45s to 495, heavy 45s to 50s, ordinary 40s to 445, and inferior cow -beef 30s to 35s per 100 lbs. Show bullocks £3O to £4O, choice prime bullocks £24 to £27, good class steers £l9 to £22, ordinary steers, £ls to £lB, light steers £ll to £l4, show heifers £2O to £26 17s 6d, extra prime heifers £ls to £lB, prime heifers £l2 10s to £l4 10s, light heifers £8 to £l2, show cows £2O to £25 10s, extra prime cows £l4 to £1,7, prime cows £ll 10s to £l3 15s, medium cows £9 to £ll, light cows £7 10s to £8 10s.

Vealers: A small entry of vealers met with a good sale at the following values: Twelve to 18 months sorts to £lO 13s 6d, i good vealers £7 10s to £8 10s, medium £4 10s to £7, inferior £2 to £3 15s, calves 20s to 355.

Store Cattle: A small entry in the store cattle pens, chiefly cows. No notable lines of steers were penned. All classes sold well. Two year old heifers £5 10s, best cows to £6 10s, good cows £4 5s to £5 ss, others £2 10s to £4 bulls £5 to £B. Dairy Cattle: An entry of, 85 head, a big proportion being backward calvers. There was a good demand, and values were slightly dearer than late rates. Best second, third, and fourth calvers £8 to £ll 15s medium sorts £6 10s to £7 15s, backward calvers £6 10s to £9 10s, aged cows and cows in profit £2 10s to £5, heifers £5 to £B. Fat Pigs: A small entry of baconers and a good one of porkers. Good heavy choppers and porkers sold well, and baconers maintained late rates. Choppers £3 10s to £lO 10s, light baconers f £3 5s to £4, heavy £4 5s to £5, average price per lb 6d to 6jd. Light porkers 42s to 50s, heavy 55s to 68s 6d, average price per lb 7gd to 9d. Store Pigs: -Only a small entry, consisting chiefly of medium large stores. Very few weaners were forward. There was" a keen demand and prices improved for all classes. Weaners 14s to 18s, small stores 20s to 235, medium stores 25s to 325, large stores to 365.
