A Wellington Press Association telegram announces the death of Mr James MacKenzie, formerly Surveyor-General and later permanent head of the Lands and Survey Department, aged 79. He was a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and jiist prior to his resignation from the public service,received the hon--our of 1.5.0. He leaves a a scattered family. Sir Thos. MacKenzie is .a brother. '
Mr R. C. Addison, of the Bank of New South Wales, who has been promoted .to inspector of the New Zealand branches, wis fcrewelled and sails for the Dominion to-day, states a Sydney Press cablegram. ■•-,..
k Carterton Press Association telegram states that the sudden death took place at Park vale at midnight of Mr John Johnson, aged 52. Deceased pursued his usual occupation during the day and at night was -engaged in auditing the books of the Druids' Lodge. He returned home in his usual spirits and died quietly in his sleep. Deceased was widely'known throughout the Wairarapa as"an agriculture engineer and threshing,mill proprietor. A,year ago he suffered a severe attack of pneumonia which left him with a weak heart. Heleaves a widow, two little girls, and a stepdaughter.
