HOCKEY

KIWI B V. BLENHEIM A inon’s hockev team from the Kiwi Club, Kelson, visited Blenheim and met a combination in the afternoon at the College' grounds in a gamo which was of a very keen and exciting nature, says the Marlborough “Express.” From the bully oil both teams got down to strenuous play, and Blenheim were soon making some good runs up field to Kiwi’s circle. The ball was kept moving, .and after a good attack Blenheim netted a fine goal from the stick of P. Hyndman, after about a quarter of an hour’s play. From the bully off Blenheim were again pressing very hard, but the Kiwi full backs were very solid, and throughout the game played splendidly. Within a very short time Blenheim again scored, this time by I). McLeod (centre forward)*-' Kiwi made stubborn attempts to score, but Gragg and Stocker (full backs) upset several promising rushes. Half time sounded with Blenheim two goals up. In the second half both teams again fought hard to score, but the hacks on both sides were good. After a good run by the Kiwi forwards they reached their opponent’s circle, and N. Ihomas (centre forward) sent in a stinging shot, which beat the goalie all the way. Mo further scoring took place, the match resulting in a win for Blenheim by the narrow margin of one goal. Mcssis H. Robson and Mitchener refereed. The keen game played by Blenheim was most encouraging, and it is hoped to have -hockey firmly established by next year.
