TIMBERING COLLAPSES

Tlie cdllapse of a portion of the timbering supporting a concrete archway being erected over a street passing under the northern approach to the harbour bridge to-day injured five men, two seriously. Men at the top o£ the structure were fixing ropes to facilitate the removal of the timbers, consisting of 15in. square balks 45ft high, when the guy rope broke and the whole section, weighing 100 tons, crashed to the ground, carrying the men with it. '• Desmond Shirley suffered a fractured skull and internal injuries; Harry Madsen a fractured leg and concussion; Herbert Morrison, it is believed, had both legs broken. Tfie others, Frederick Agnew and Albert Coleman, suffered lesser injuries. Half the roadway was already open to traffic, but fortunately no one was passing.
